4/17 All Events Cancelled - Snow Day
In August I had the privilege of traveling with Dave Richards to Kenya. This was a very meaningful trip, and God revealed many things to me. Dave has been ministering in Kenya for over 21 years with J.B. Masinde. J.B. leads a large church in Nairobi and has a ministry throughout Kenya and around the world. It was amazing to see some of the things that Dave and J.B. have established and some of the leaders that they are working with. These leaders are now training younger leaders who are spreading out and raising up disciples who are changing their society. JB is a tremendous example of leadership and faithfulness. He is really building a culture of discipleship. We spent much of our time ministering and encouraging pastors and leaders.
One of the most impacting moments was the day we were able to visit the slum ministry that the church is doing in Nairobi. They have a ministry to pregnant women in the slums, many of whom have AIDS. Their facilities and equipment are primitive, but they are making a huge difference and are a major blessing to this impoverished community. They have a school ministry to around 250 kids in the slum, giving them an education they could not receive any other way. They also have a small number of kids that live there full-time. We were able to bless them with money that was raised in the U.K. for much needed food and necessities. JB did a couple of songs with the kids at the end, and it was such a blessing to see the joy on their faces!
We were also able to join a national youth conference by the Deliverance Churches in Kenya. Approximately 1500 young people attended, and it was fun to minister to them and watch the fire and the passion they have for God. We saw God begin to speak into some of the tribal prejudices that exist in Kenya, and we are believing God for change among the young people that will begin to effect this country.
Traveling with Dave was such a blessing. He is an amazing father to the people of Kenya and they really love him. I was able to have a lot of conversations with him about building in the Kingdom and I was blessed by his wisdom. He taught me things about faith, team building and leadership that will stay with me the rest of my life. The people of Kenya will forever be in my heart and I look forward to seeing the ways they stretch out to bless other countries of the world.
