However, when empowered by grace through faith in Christ, it becomes an "honor", a privilege to forgive. Our forgiveness of those who have hurt or disappointed us, or even sinned against us, reveals a depth of honor toward Father that is life changing for the "one forgiving".
The peace of heart and liberty in our minds when we, from our heart, release the accountability another has to us for their violation is amazing. It is so interesting that Jesus was very clear concerning the issue of forgiveness. If I forgive others their trespasses then I'm forgiven mine.
The strength and power of forgiveness is a spirit weapon as well as a point of extreme honor. 2 Corinthians 10:3 mentions that "our weapons are mighty through God, divinely empowered." Once it is given, forgiveness is divinely empowered to free both the forgiver and the forgiven. Forgiveness isn't something we have to work out and strive and take time to do, rather, forgiveness is a choice. The choice comes out of our wellness of spirit. In Matthew 18:35 Jesus says that if you don't forgive from a whole (well) heart, you haven't forgiven. So, the honor is given when we, from our wellness of heart, release forgiveness without strings attached.
In Malachi 1:6 God asks, "If I am a Father, where is my honor?" Let us be an honorable people who live daily in our honor of Father by how we love one another in our choices to forgive.
